Could you please briefly introduce yourself and tell us what you are studying, at which university, and in which semester?
My name is Julius, I’m 28 years old. I study at Goethe University in Frankfurt and I am currently in my 11th semester. I completed the state examination in 2023 and am currently waiting for the final grade in my Law and Finance specialization.
Why did you choose to study law?
My decision to study law followed my Rhetoric studies at the University of Tübingen, where I already had law as a minor subject. By the end of my bachelor's degree, I found working with statutes and case law more enjoyable than my major, which led me to pursue a law degree.
What was your second career choice, and why did you ultimately decide on law?
My second career choice was to become a doctor. I believe the practical work and the rewarding outcome of helping patients recover would have brought me a lot of joy. However, the scientific nature of medical studies and the extensive memorization required deterred me.
Doctors are trained to assess complex and ever-changing scenarios using their acquired knowledge to find solutions. On a different level, lawyers operate similarly. I think this parallel ultimately motivated me to study law. Unlike medicine, law combines the best of both worlds for me: I can utilize my linguistic skills while delving deeply into socially significant topics. Political and economic contexts, in particular, fascinate me.
How did you hear about our law firm?
I specifically searched for boutique law firms in Frankfurt specializing in corporate law. GxG Legal matched this profile perfectly.
How could working at our firm benefit your studies and career development?
The practical work sharpens my ability to identify problems and find solutions. Additionally, working alongside my studies adds variety to my academic routine and provides valuable insights into my future career as a lawyer.
Do you have any advice for potential applicants?
At the beginning of your career, don’t be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes.
Is there a book that has particularly inspired or impressed you?
The Dark Side of the Moon by Martin Suter. The novel tells the story of a successful corporate lawyer who spirals into a life crisis after consuming hallucinogenic mushrooms.
When you think of movies, is there a scene that has particularly stuck with you?
Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction: The dialogue between John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson about "Royale with Cheese":
VINCENT: I know, baby, you'd dig it the most.. But you know what the funniest thing about Europe is?
JULES: What?
VINCENT: It's the little differences. I mean, they got the same shit over there they got here, but, it's just, just, there it's a little different.
JULES: Example? VINCENT: Alright, you can walk into a movie theatre in Amsterdam and buy a beer. And I don't mean just like in no paper cup. I'm talking about a glass of beer. And in Paris, you can buy a beer at McDonald's. And you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
JULES: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with Cheese?
VINCENT: No, they got the metric system there, they wouldn't know what the fuck a Quarter Pounder is.
JULES: Then what do they call it?
VINCENT: They call it Royale with Cheese.
Do you have a life motto or a philosophy you live by?
There is always a way.
